The new Cabot Circus shopping and leisure area in Bristol is due to be open this year, on September 25th 2008, something the people of Bristol have been eagerly awaiting since building commenced back in September 2005. This means it will be open in plenty of time for shoppers to have a brand new Christmas shopping experience. It promises to provide one million sq ft of high quality retail and leisure uses, as well as new offices, apartments and public spaces. Cabot Circus brings a total of 120 new stores, a new cinema with 13 screens named 'Cinema de Lux', over 200 new homes including 24 affordable homes, a new state of the art car park with over 2500 spaces and 3 new pedestrian streets. Most of the shopping area will be covered by a huge shell shaped glass roof, the first of its kind to be used in Europe. It will provide a light and airy atmosphere with protection from the elements.

The Bristol Alliance has invested £500 million to create the new city quarter that will act as a spectacular gateway to the city. Such a huge project puts Bristol in good stead to compete for a place in the UK's top ten retail destinations. The public art programme is a programme which combines the work of appointed artists, some of which are local, some internationally renowned, with the main architects to create an atmosphere which is pleasant, interesting and exciting to experience visually. The area will gain an eclectic mix of 20 new restaurants and cafés which, open throughout the day and evening will significantly boost Bristol's night time appeal and provide many fine places to dine. Some of the confirmed restaurants include Brasserie Blanc, Zizzi and Café Rouge. It is clear that the construction of Cabot Circus has provided many jobs, but as Cabot Circus opens over 4000 new jobs will be created. Job seekers are invited to register to one of the greatest ever recruitment drives the city has seen. The new jobs cover a broad range of sectors from retail to leisure, and catering to hospitality. Thousands of local people have already registered. There are full and part time jobs available at all levels from starter jobs to senior management positions.
