October Highlights
Voices -exhibition runs until Sunday 16th November
A Diverse selection of artwork by both emerging and established contemporary African and African-Caribbean artists.
This October the museum will be running a series of art talks about their work in the 'Voices' exhibition and what influences them. Its a perfect way to make the most of your lunch hour. Talks include:
  • Glenn Jordan (Artist and Academic) Weds 8th Oct 1.30-2pm
  • Moira Vincentelli (Writer and academic on artist Helga Gamboa) weds 22nd Oct 1.30-2pm
Winter Lecture – Guatemala – first of the series Weds 17th Oct
The first of the series of evening lectures (7.30pm) takes a look at Guatemalas rich textile heritage. Join Anthropologist Ed Carter for free thanks to the kind sponsorship of the Friends of Bristol's Museums.
Society of Wood Engravers 71st Annual Exhibition

Watercolour Gallery (Top Floor)
Bristol City's Museum and Art Gallery plays host to this popular exhibition which showcases some of the best engravers from around the globe.
There will be over 100 works on display including a wide variety of techniques and subject matter, such as stunning landscapes, self portraits and abstracts. Wood engraving is a very time consuming and intricate art and the prints on display will highlight some of the worlds best wood engravings, woodcuts and linocuts.
Visitors will have the opportunity to purchase examples of the exciting, affordable art form which can be supplied in time for christmas. Local artists involved include Simon Brett, Peter Reddick and Trevor Haddrell.
And Finally......Harbour Railway Trips!
Be transported back to the days of steam, as the impressive steam train chugs back into actiononce again, for a new season of harbour trips.
For a mere £2 (Single, or £3 return), passangers can enjoy a trip on Britain's only dockside steam railway, taking in the sites along the water.
The train departs from the SS Great Britain on the harbourside every 40 minutes between 11am and 5pm
