2008 Bristol Balloon Fiesta Weekend of Entertainment
by: Kirsty Nash
The Weekends Entertainment:
Avon Fire Brigade
Displays from the fire brigade will be exciting yet educational. We will be offered an insight into the dangerous situations which fire fighters face on a daily basis. The Avon Fire Brigade will put on two displays per day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday so there is no excuse to miss out!
Exit Parachute Team
The Exit Parachute Team, will quite appropriately be jumping out of flying aircraft very high from the ground! They will put on two performances per day on all four days of the Bristol Balloon Fiesta weekend. The team will be flown up 5,000 feet by helicopter and begin their decent. They will perform a spectacular synchronised display as they fall, only to land on a marker in the main arena, every time.
Model Balloons
This will be a capturing display for any ballooning fan. Hand-made, miniature hot air balloons around 1/50th of the volume of regular hot air balloons, will arrive for the first time to grace the Balloon Fiesta weekend and provide a novel sight for all. The models will range from 12ft to 30ft and will come in a variety of entertaining shapes. So far a dog, a ladybird, a lighthouse, elephant and bear have been announced but many more are sure to be a hit. Many of these models can be radio controlled from the ground and can have their own journey across the sky with no one aboard!.
The Punch and Judy Show
There's not much more to be said, everyone knows Punch and Judy right! Well it's a show that travels and appears at many events around the UK and Europe and this time they have landed at the Bristol Balloon Fiesta so give them a warm welcome please!
Paramania
Anyone who went to last years balloon fiesta may recognise these performers. The show involves a Parabatix Aerial Display which is choreographed all along by music. Impressive.
The Red Arrows
The Red Arrows will join the Balloon Fiesta on Sunday. The red arrows have been performing since 1965 and are Britain's world renowned aerobatic display team. They demonstrating the skill of the Royal Air Force as they dance across the sky. Everyone can look forward to breath taking speeds and daring visual displays of spiralling jet aircraft, which will be an asset to the event, and spirals of coloured smoke left in the trail.
Rockin' Horse
Rockin' Horse is an equestrian stunt show where the experienced Rockin horse put on a fabulous display of skill and perform a variety of daring acts. Horses will gallop through fire, riders will ride 3 horses at once. Riders will perform what can only be described as acrobatics or gymnastics, in the saddle of a galloping horse. These guys really have no fear and are so skilled they can rotate 360 degrees, that's right under the horses tummy, and get back in the saddle of a moving horse. The running commentary builds up incredible hype in the audience and spurs the team on even more, there's no knowing what new tricks these guys may have learnt so its a must see.
Territorial Army and Rifles 1
The territorial army will give us an example of what life is really like for them with a mock section attack. The show will take place twice on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and will include support from the Royal Artillery, Signals Unit, Royal Mechanical and Electrical Engineers, and Medics to evacuate wounded soldiers. A recruitment stand will provide more information about becoming part of the Territorial Army.
